Our mission is to engage vulnerable youth in the constructive development of knowledge, skills, values and social belonging, through the sport, science and experience of sailing
Our Social Value
Broad Reach provides youth with opportunities to gain an exceptional advantage to learn, mature, aspire, and to contribute wherever they are engaged. We strive to assist youth in being more confident, curious, courageous, caring, resilient, and respectful.
Founded in 1998, Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders is a registered charity built on partnerships with other youth-serving agencies. Promoting accessibility and inclusion, we believe that economics should never be a barrier to participation. We are proud to offer a free program for at-risk youth that combines building life skills, job training and sailing in a unique setting aboard one of our 35′-40’ sailboats. Through our Summer Afloat and Winter Ashore activities, youth aged 13-24/29, use sailing as experiential learning to develop leadership, teamwork, and positive work ethic.
A unique community concept, the Broad Reach Foundation has introduced life-skills education through sailing to over 5,000 young people with economic, social and physical barriers. Being able to offer our unique programs to youth is made possible through the generous financial grants and donations from sponsoring organizations, individual donors, and the support of the sailing community. Building on the spirit of that community, we are grateful for our dedicated team of volunteers who give generously of their time and expertise to assist our staff in delivering our programs.
The Broad Reach Foundation currently operates 4 vessels: Orca, a 12 M Screamer, Blurrr, a Flying Tiger 10M, Jilàsi, a Cheoy Lee built, Rhodes offshore 40, and SottoVento, a J105.
